I paint with pastel over acrylic-based pastel primers brushed onto Gatorboard. The gold color is Golden brand Fine Pumice Gel (or Golden brand Pastel Ground) with Golden brand Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold fluid acrylic color added. The terra cotta color is Art Spectrum brand multimedia primer. Both of these contain pumice that holds on to the pastel very well. The warm tones of the primers interact with the pastels to create visual vibrations and exciting color conversations.
